This 8-day trip on the Hardangervidda plateau offers you the opportunity to join Norwegian polar royalty, Liv Arnesen to celebrate her historic first woman’s solo unsupported South Pole achievement in 1994. Joining Liv is the acclaimed polar guide and Antarctic queen - the legendary Hannah McKeand, who also soloed unsupported to the South Pole in 2006. Be part of this unique opportunity as they come together to share their love of winter expeditionary travel.
This all-women’s adventure will include expedition guidance based from Finsehytta, Finse, Norway. The mini expedition will take you on ‘the wintery trail’ camping, pulling your ‘home and belongings’, and includes a night at the classic Fagerheim hotel mid expedition. Enjoy being self-sufficient and independent, along with the camaraderie of other adventurous spirits. Nothing beats an exhilarating journey to set one’s mind and body in balance. Arrive at Finse by train from Bergen or Oslo. Official program start time is 5:00pm (as team members will likely arrival at different times of the day and will be met accordingly by Liv and Hannah. Once checked in to FInsehytta, we will start with a welcome, review of the week, introductions and personal expedition clothing check. Dinner will be a warm, homecooked Norwegian meal in the dining area. After dinner - route review, expedition information and presentation of clothing system and expedition equipment. At Finsehytta, you will be sleeping in a shared room.
Up early as this will be a busy day of planning, packing for expedition and a must need ski on Finse lake and surrounding hills. Testing pulks, skis, tent set up and finding your ski legs - this day is all about getting ready for expedition departure tomorrow. Dinner and bed at Finsehytta. ** It is good to note that Finsehytta has it's own brewery!
After a hearty breakfast, filling your flasks and packing your lunch to go, a review of conditions, weather, route and essential expeditions items, you will be off on expedition. This day will likely be a 3/4 ski day covering 12-15 km. Bed tonight is your tent, on the snow, cosy and warm with a tent mate. Be prepared to be impressed with your achievements.
It is not April Fools, you are waking up in a tent, on the Hardangervidda! Breakfast followed by taking down camp before setting off for a full days journey. Today will cover 15+km after which a suitable campsite will be chosen and camp will be made. Tonight's accommodation is under the sky in your tent.
Today's goal is to travel well, have fun and reach Fagerheim, where you will enjoy this traditional Norwegian hotel, a lovely warm meal and a bed.
Back on expedition after breakfast at Fagerheim, pack a lunch and fill your flasks. This will be a full day of skiing, sleeping tonight in your tent.
This is the final day of expedition and will lead the team back to Finsehytta. Well done everyone. There is the expedition clear up and unpacking to be done before a well deserved shower and celebration meal. Great effort, tonight you sleep inside at Finsehytta.
Any final equipment to sort and put away, and hopefully time for a ski on the lake before people catch their trains home. The program will end officially at noonish. Anyone wishing to continue their time at Finse, please book directly with Finsehytta or the Finse1222 Hotel.
